Georgian Coast Guard personnel participate in multinational exercise ‘Phoenix Express 2026’ in Tunisia

Personnel from the Border Police Coast Guard under Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) have participated in the multinational maritime exercise Phoenix Express 2026, held in Tunisia.

The United States Naval Forces Europe-Africa organised the exercise.

The primary objective was to bolster cooperation, information sharing, and operational coordination among participating nations in maritime security.

Officers from the Georgian Border Police Coast Guard served as instructors during the exercise, contributing to board and search operations as well as multinational training centre activities.

The maritime phase of the exercise encompassed real-time information exchange between international naval forces, maritime domain control, the detection and inspection of suspicious vessels, visit, board, search, and seizure (VBSS) procedures, search and rescue operations, explosive ordnance disposal (EOD), and training in chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) defence.

According to the Georgian Border Police, the Tunisian Navy hosted the 12-day exercise; it featured naval personnel from North Africa, Europe, Türkiye, and the United States.
