Georgian chess players win three medals at World Senior Championship
The World Senior Chess Championship has concluded in Gallipoli, Italy. The tournament was held in two age categories — 50+ and 65+ — and brought together 458 chess players from 64 countries. The competition took place over 11 rounds under the Swiss system.
Georgian chess players achieved outstanding results, earning three medals at the world championship.
In the 50+ category, Mikheil Kekelidze claimed the silver medal, scoring 9 points out of 11 rounds.
In the 65+ category, Zurab Sturua shared first to sixth places with 8.5 points but, after tiebreaks, took second place, also winning silver.
Among women in the 65+ category, the legendary Nona Gaprindashvili finished with 7.5 points and took bronze.
