During his working visit to Georgia, Rashad Nabiyev, Minister of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan, met with Levan Davitashvili, First Vice Speaker and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development.
The ministers discussed cooperation in the transport sphere, outlining joint projects and plans for their collaboration. The parties highlighted the Middle Corridor’s increasing role and the involvement of participating countries to boost competitiveness and attract additional cargo.
Rashad Nabiyev emphasized that in 2024, a significant increase was observed not only in the general transit of goods but also in the number of containers.
“We observed the 25% increase in the number of containers travelling to third countries bypassing Azerbaijan and Georgia. As you know, Azerbaijan invested in the development of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project. We ensured that goods from China reached their destination via Baku and Kutaisi in 12-15 days, whereas in the past, the same shipments took about 53 days,” he said.
Levan Davitashvili focused on the establishment of a joint plant, which will operate the infrastructure of the final stage of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, stating that this will allow for the efficient and effective loading of this segment and attract more cargo.
“It was crucial to exchange our plans and visions so that, with maximum coordination, we could be more competitive in the region and internationally,” stated Levan Davitashvili.
