MP Sharmanashvili: Iceland small but wealthy country; the issue it does not discuss for delicacy is EU’s flawed migration policy

“Iceland fears following the European Union’s set migration regulation for possible demographic disbalance,” said Tengiz Sharmanashvili, a member of the parliamentary majority.

According to the MP, the myth that everything is transparent in Europe is not true.

“When countries defend their interests, they do not elaborate on the reasons for their abstention. Iceland is a small but wealthy country, and one of the issues it does not discuss for delicacy is the EU’s flawed migration policy. They are likely concerned of EU’s incorrect migration policy that may cause demographic disbalance if they follow the European bureaucracy and the EP’s set regulations.

Even the United States points out to the European Union that its policy is flawed and will lead to disaster if continued. Iceland is concerned about preserving its sovereignty and making independent decisions on economic matters, issues it does not speak about openly out of discretion; migration issues are likely among them,” Sharmanashvili said.

According to the final results of the referendum held in Iceland, 52.8% of the population voted against resuming negotiations on EU accession, while 47.2% supported resuming the talks.
