Georgian and Armenian Economy Ministers meet in Yerevan to deepen trade and investment ties

Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, has held talks with the Republic of Armenia’s Minister of Economy, Gevorg Papoyan, during a working visit to Armenia.

The two ministers discussed a broad range of issues relating to economic cooperation between their countries. Kvrivishvili noted that Armenia is an important trade and economic partner for Georgia, whilst emphasising that considerable potential remains untapped, not least in the area of investment.

“I had a very fruitful meeting with my colleague, the Republic of Armenia’s Minister of Economy. Our relations with our neighbour Armenia are something rather special, and today’s meeting was naturally an opportunity to discuss how trade and economic ties between our two countries might be strengthened further. We are confident that today’s meeting will serve as yet another vital foundation for deepening economic links between our countries, as well as the bonds between our peoples. In the near future, we expect to see quite tangible results, outcomes that will support economic growth, attract investment, and bring our peoples still closer together,” the Minister said.

The meeting placed particular emphasis on fostering closer ties between the two countries’ business communities. Both sides agreed to promote the organisation of more B2B meetings, trade missions, and business forums to strengthen communication between their respective private sectors.

According to the Ministry of Economy, both ministers recognised that trade and economic relations between Georgia and Armenia have steadily strengthened in recent years. Armenia remains one of Georgia’s principal trading partners; according to 2025 figures, it ranked ninth by trade turnover and fifth by export volume. Kvrivishvili drew attention to the scope for deepening cooperation on both traditional and new export products.

The meeting also placed considerable emphasis on expanding collaboration in the tourism sector, and both sides discussed the importance of increasing direct air connectivity between the two countries.

“Particular focus was placed on trade, specifically on how Georgian goods can be exported more effectively, including to Armenia. We discussed close cooperation in the tourism industry, as well as other areas of shared strategic importance to both countries,” Kvrivishvili noted.

The Georgian delegation, led by the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, also included Deputy Ministers Genadi Arveladze and Tamar Ioseliani. Georgia’s Ambassador to the Republic of Armenia, Giorgi Sharvashidze, also took part in the meeting with the Armenian Economy Minister.
