“Strengthening interstate relations and mutually beneficial cooperation consistently serves the long-term interests of both countries. The parties expressed interest in maintaining political contacts at all levels,” says the Joint Communiqué, signed by Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze and President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon.
The Communiqué emphasizes the significance of Georgian PM Irakli Kobakhidze’s official visit to the Republic of Tajikistan on June 19-20, 2026.
“During the negotiations held in an atmosphere of mutual understanding and trust, the Parties particularly noted the significance of this visit, which opens a new chapter in the history of bilateral relations between Tajikistan and Georgia.
Relying on the strong historical ties and centuries-old bonds of friendship between the peoples of the two countries, based on the inviolability of the Protocol on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and Georgia dated August 4, 1994, convinced that the progressive strengthening of interstate relations and mutually beneficial cooperation meets the long-term interests of both countries, and striving to further deepen the partnership and enhance the effectiveness of interaction within international organizations of which the Republic of Tajikistan and Georgia are members, the Parties note the following:
1. The Republic of Tajikistan and Georgia discussed the current state and prospects of bilateral relations and expressed their strong determination to comprehensively strengthen and further expand the friendship between the peoples of the two countries. The States, guided by the principles of respect for sovereignty, equality, and mutual benefit, will consistently develop relations based on mutual respect and trust.
The Parties expressed their interest in further strengthening political contacts at all levels. In this context, they specifically noted the need to invigorate the activities of the “Tajikistan – Georgia” parliamentary friendship group.
2. The Parties confirmed their readiness to comprehensively deepen cooperation in the economic, trade, investment, transport and transit, and agricultural spheres, as well as in the fields of science and education, culture, tourism, healthcare, sports, and youth policy.
3. The Parties expressed confidence that the interstate relations of the two countries at the current stage possess immense potential and have broad prospects for dynamic development.
4. The Parties reaffirmed that deepening foreign policy interaction based on mutual support on key issues of the international agenda is one of the important elements of the Tajik-Georgian interstate dialogue.
5. The States will continue to strengthen interaction within the framework of the UN, OSCE, and other international organizations in order to ensure peace, stability, and security. The Parties reaffirmed their commitment to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, recognizing its irreplaceable central role.
6. The Parties confirmed their commitment to further strengthening and developing cooperation in countering global challenges and threats, including terrorism, extremism, illegal drug trafficking, cybercrime, and transnational organized crime.
7. The Parties confirmed the priority of expanding economic cooperation and intend to facilitate an increase in mutual trade volumes, diversification of exports and imports, development of the agricultural and innovation sectors, energy, as well as industrial cooperation in the mining and metallurgical, light, and manufacturing industries.
8. The Parties noted the importance of expanding cooperation in the areas of the digital economy, information and communication technologies, innovation, and e-government, and expressed interest in exchanging best practices in these fields.
9. The Parties welcomed the signing of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Government of Georgia on the establishment of a Joint Intergovernmental Commission on economic cooperation and emphasized the significance of its active operation in order to enhance wide-ranging cooperation.
10. The States will promote the development of direct ties between business circles, the creation of joint ventures, and the protection of mutual investments.
11. Recognizing the transport and logistics sector as a key driver of economic growth, the Parties agreed to promote the development of transport infrastructure and the effective use of transit potential.
12. The Republic of Tajikistan and Georgia advocate for the establishment of regular direct air communication between Tajikistan and Georgia and are ready for the joint development and implementation of projects in the transport and communication sphere.
13. In order to strengthen humanitarian cooperation, the Parties will support the development of contacts between institutions of culture, education, science, and healthcare, as well as research centers and other public institutions.
14. Following the negotiations between the Republic of Tajikistan and Georgia, a package of important documents was signed, covering various spheres of bilateral cooperation and forming a reliable legal basis for the mutually beneficial realization of the existing potential of Tajik-Georgian cooperation.”
