Georgia and Armenia hold 15th Intergovernmental Commission session, with PMs pledging deeper economic and strategic ties

A session of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between Georgia and Armenia was convened under the joint chairmanship of the Prime Ministers of both countries.

According to the press service of the Georgian Prime Minister, Irakli Kobakhidze and Nikol Pashinyan used the 15th session of the Intergovernmental Commission to discuss the positive momentum in deepening partnership across various sectors, as well as prospects for the future.

The Georgian Prime Minister underscored the strategic partnership with the Republic of Armenia, the growing scope of cooperation between the two countries, and the importance of stability in the region.

“A wide variety of formats have been established between our countries, and this is having a positive effect on the development of our partnership. Armenia consistently features among Georgia’s top ten trading partners. In terms of visitor numbers from Armenia to Georgia, Armenia ranks in the top three. Beyond our trade and economic ties, we are united by a very close cooperation in areas such as education, culture, people-to-people contacts, and strategic initiatives.

Against this backdrop, there exists significant potential to deepen cooperation across all sectors further. Maintaining stability in the region remains of paramount importance. We are encouraged by the positive trends that have emerged in our region in recent times.

The peace agreement concluded between your country and Azerbaijan was of great significance. All of this provides an excellent foundation upon which to work still harder for the strengthening and development of our region.

Prime Minister, I would like to express my personal gratitude for your contribution to the advancement of our relations. We value it very highly,” said Irakli Kobakhidze.

The Armenian Prime Minister, in turn, thanked his Georgian counterpart for Georgia’s steadfast support of the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and drew attention to the positive trajectory in the development of trade and economic ties between the two countries.

“Since the day Armenia gained independence, trains have been arriving from Georgia, and we hope that rail links will drive trade still higher. Your support in this matter is invaluable. With Georgia’s backing, trilateral trade and relations between Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan have deepened.

Peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan is, of course, improving the environment across our region. We will continue to give our unconditional support to Georgia’s territorial integrity, sovereignty and political independence. The historical relationship between our peoples is one of great warmth and goodwill. That is a fundamental and cherished value,” said Nikol Pashinyan.

Members of both governments participated in the session of the Georgia-Armenia Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation.
