Georgia provided GEL 1 million in humanitarian assistance to Turkey’s earthquake victims.

“One million Georgian lari was allocated from the government’s reserve fund to the Ministry of IDPs, Labor, Health, and Social Protection to find humanitarian aid for the population affected by the natural disaster in the Republic of Turkey,” the government reported.

According to a decree issued by the Georgian government and signed by Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, the money will be used to buy supplies for the people affected by the devastating earthquake in southeast Turkey, close to the border with Syria, as well as to transport them to the Republic of Turkey. These supplies will include food, clothing, medicine, and other necessities.

After offering his condolences to Ali Kaan Orbay, the Turkish ambassador to Georgia, PM Irakli Garibashvili signed the condolence book at the embassy.

“I want to send the Turkish people and the families who lost loved ones our deepest sympathies and condolences. We send our best wishes and blessings for a quick recovery to everyone hurt in this tragedy. In this trying time, I would like to express my personal and strong solidarity with the Republic of Turkey on behalf of the Government of Georgia and the Georgian people,” the letter of condolence from the prime minister reads.
