Education Minister highlights Georgia’s progress at regional presentation of PISA 2025 results in Bratislava
Georgia’s Minister of Education, Science and Youth Givi Mikanadze took part in the international regional presentation of the PISA 2025 results, held in Bratislava, Georgia’s Ministry of Education, Science and Youth reported.
Addressing the audience, Mikanadze spoke about the progress achieved by Georgia in the latest PISA assessment.
“I would like to congratulate the entire public and academic community on Georgia’s achievements. Our country has improved its performance in all major areas and achieved its best results of the past decade in mathematics and science, ranking first among the 91 countries participating in the study in terms of improvement,” Mikanadze said.
He noted that while the results were significant and encouraging at the international level, Georgia’s overall performance remained below the international average.
“That is why we continue to work actively to improve the quality of education and the education system. We use the PISA results as an effective tool to better plan education policy and more accurately identify priorities, existing challenges and ways to address them,” he said.
Mikanadze also highlighted Georgia’s relatively high level of educational equity, noting that social status and related factors have a smaller impact on students’ academic performance in Georgia compared with international indicators.
“Despite the high level of equality, access to quality education remains a major priority for us, and we continue to face challenges in this regard. For this reason, we are implementing a fundamental reform of general education, and I am confident that the initiatives underway will lead to significant progress in the quality of education in the future,” he said.
Mikanadze also emphasized Georgia’s cooperation with the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), noting that Georgia will host a major PISA event in 2027.
“Georgia has very fruitful cooperation with PISA, as evidenced by the fact that next year our country will host an event of major importance for professional dialogue. In particular, a meeting of the PISA Governing Board will be held in Batumi in 2027,” he said.
According to Mikanadze, hosting such a high-level meeting is a significant event for Georgia’s education system, the entire school community and the academic sector.
“This will be the first time that such a high-level event within the PISA framework is held in Georgia, which is also evidence of our distinguished cooperation with PISA,” he added.
Education ministers from 31 countries across Central, Eastern and Northern Europe, as well as Asia, participated in the presentation of the PISA 2025 results.
