Georgia agrees to receive back its Georgian citizens convicted in Sweden
Georgia agrees on the return of its Georgian citizens convicted in Sweden to the motherland. An agreement will be signed within the next two months, – Swedish media reported after the meeting between the Swedish and Georgian Ministers of Internal Affairs.
“Now we are starting to work on a bilateral agreement, which will involve the transfer of Georgian citizens convicted in Sweden,” Swedish Interior Minister said.
According to the local media, currently up to 70 citizens are serving sentences in Sweden, but Georgia has refused to take them back because of the lack of space in Georgian prisons.
The Swedish and Georgian Interior Ministers also reached an agreement on increasing police cooperation, the main purpose of which is to eradicate organized crime.
