GD's Sharmanashvili: Unfair to open EU accession talks with Ukraine and Moldova but not with Georgia

The injustice continues when it is said that accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova will be opened, while Georgia is excluded, Parliamentary Majority member Tengiz Sharmanashvili said.

“It is unfortunate when a country is treated unfairly,” he stated.

According to Sharmanashvili, a new trend has emerged in discussions surrounding Georgia’s relations with the European Union.

“They have realized that suspending visa-free travel for the entire Georgian population would not achieve the desired result and could further increase dissatisfaction with the Eurobureaucracy. Therefore, representatives of the radical opposition are now being encouraged to say that they will ask the European Union to impose punitive measures only on the government and not on the Georgian people.

Anyone who wishes may try to gain political points from such absurd ideas, but the fact is that Eurobureaucracy is targeting the entire Georgian people when it takes such steps.

They themselves published reports showing that Georgia was among the leading candidate countries. However, when they adopted conclusions or resolutions, they included assessments that contradicted those results.

The injustice continues when they say that negotiations will be opened with Ukraine and Moldova, but not with Georgia. It is bad when a country is treated unfairly,” Sharmanashvili concluded.
