GD's Mdinaradze vows Georgian gov't imposes no de facto or other sanctions

The chairman of the Georgian Dream faction, Mamuka Mdinaradze, echoed EU Ambassador Pawel Herczynski’s remark following his meeting with Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili, saying “We regret the decision of the Georgian government to accept direct flights with Russia.”

Mdinaradze thanked the EU ambassador for “emphasizing that the resumption of flights was a unilateral decision, however, for objectivity, the second part of his statement contained factual inaccuracies, as though the Georgian government’s consent was required for the execution of this decision.”

GD member vowed, “Georgia is not going to impose sanctions and thus harm its own citizens.”

“There was no need for any consent, neither at the political nor formal level. If it’s about technical issues that air navigation, United Airports, etc. should issue permits, their refusal would lead to de facto sanctions being imposed against Russia. The Georgian government imposes no de facto or other sanctions. This is a principled stance since it will hurt Georgia, and its citizens,” he stated.
