GD initiates amendments on CEC chair, members' election

The ruling Georgian Dream party plans to introduce legislative changes to the election code and parliament regulations, the majority MP Givi Mikanadze announced.

These changes include increasing the number of votes needed to elect the chair and members of the Central Election Commission (CEC) from 76 to 90.

Based on the project, if a candidate fails to secure 90 votes, there will be two additional rounds where they can seek the support of 76 votes. If they still can’t gain enough support, the matter will be transferred to the President for further consideration.

The Parliament is expected to expedite the consideration of this initiative.
