Gakharia's Sharashidze on Rustaveli confrontation: We're not fighting to replace one 'titushka' with another
“The forms we saw on Rustaveli are not pleasant. We are not engaged in this struggle so that one ‘titushka’ replaces another ‘titushka,'” declared Giorgi Sharashidze, a member of the political council of the Gakharia for Georgia party, referring to a last night incident when protest rally participants confronted opposition Lelo party leaders.
Sharashidze emphasised that dialogue and mutual respect between people are paramount, regardless of their differing views.
“Our political team supports the principle that any differing opinion should be acceptable; no matter how diverse people’s views may be from our own, we must remain able to engage, communicate, and work together. The only one who benefits from this confrontation and radicalism is precisely Georgian Dream,” Sharashidze stated.
“The behaviour we witnessed yesterday on Rustaveli is naturally not commendable, regardless of who thinks what and how. What matters is the form of expression. Everyone has their own struggle tactics. From the very first day, our political team had declared that we are going through the electoral route because we believe we can defeat Georgian Dream through elections.
Others may have different perspectives, but our shared goal remains clear: defeating Georgian Dream. I call on everyone to unite around this goal,” Sharashidze stated.
“The forms we saw on Rustaveli are, of course, not pleasant. We are not engaged in this much struggle so that one titushka [hired thug] replaces another titushka. For us, dialogue is paramount, mutual respect between people, whatever different positions we may have,” he concluded.
On August 6, a confrontation took place on Rustaveli Avenue involving supporters of the jailed founder of Batumelebi and Netgazeti media outlets, Mzia Amaglobeli, and leaders of the opposition Lelo–Strong Georgia party.
