Gakharia for Georgia's Sharashidze doubts reset of relations with U.S., saying government members hold meetings in corridors with low-ranking officials

“If the ‘Dream’ wished to reset relations with the U.S., it had sufficient time to reset itself,” said Giorgi Sharashidze, a member of the Gakharia for Georgia party.

According to Gakharia, the level at which the U.S. meetings are being held once again confirms that no one takes the “dream” government seriously.

“Meetings in the U.S. are held in corridors, not beyond that and with low-ranking representatives. While we were personally hosting secretaries of state and vice presidents in this country four years ago, the visits were at the highest level, and there was a strategic relationship between Georgia and the United States.

Today, we face a situation where there are no strategic relations with Georgia, and all kinds of relations are suspended. Our neighbours, Armenia and Azerbaijan, are trying their best to benefit from the changed geopolitical situation, and we see that they are actually friends with the U.S. It is not only shaking hands but serious partner relations and the U.S. Vice-President is expected in these countries in a couple of days.

And what about us, if the deputy foreign minister enters Madame Tussauds Museum and shakes hands with Trump’s wax figure and makes it a reality, but in fact, there will be no tangible results, and this is regrettable,” he said

Giorgi Sharashidze noted that the party has information that Mamuka Mdinaradze, Head of the State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG), is in the U.S.

“If the SSSG believes that releasing a statement saying Mdinaradze is in Tbilisi is enough, it is mistaken. Presumably, they do not admit Mamuka Mdinaradze’s being in the U.S. because this visit, which coincides with Mr Mdinaradze’s stay there, is at such a low level that no tangible results have been achieved,” Sharashidze said.
