Foreign Relations Committee Chair: Georgian delegation takes opportunity to meet with geographically distant countries
Chair of the parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee, Nikoloz Samkharadze, stressed the significance of the Georgian parliamentary delegation’s participation in the 51st Annual Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie (APF).
According to Samkharadze, the format provides the opportunity to meet with representatives of those countries that are geographically distant from Georgia and have no diplomatic relations with the country.
“More than three hundred delegates from countries in North America, Europe, Africa, and Asia are participating in this year’s session. The format is significant for us since it provides the opportunity to meet with representatives of those countries, which are geographically distant from Georgia and have no active diplomatic relations with the country.
Giorgi Kakhiani delivered a speech focusing on threats of occupation and the fate of those individuals who are unable to return to their homes due to occupation. Also, particular emphasis was placed on the resolution annually submitted by Georgia to the UN.
The countries which often abstain from voting for the resolution are present at APF. Therefore, we urged them to support the resolution in the future. We also emphasized the steps taken for strengthening sovereignty and economic progress in the last 5 years.
The Parliament of Georgia uses this platform to strengthen the policy of non-recognition and to garner support from an increasing number of countries for the Georgian resolution presented annually at the UN,” said Nikoloz Samkharadze.
