Georgian parliamentary delegation takes stage at 51st Assembly of the Francophonie
A Georgian parliamentary delegation, comprising Deputy Speaker Giorgi Kakhiani and the Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, MP Nikoloz Samkharadze, is currently participating in the 51st Annual Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie (APF) in Yaoundé.
The annual session commenced with meetings of the Assembly’s various committees. The Georgian delegation participated in the Political Affairs Committee session. The session allowed member states to outline domestic political processes, achievements, and challenges within their respective nations.
Addressing the committee, the head of the delegation, Giorgi Kakhiani, briefed participants on Georgia’s current political landscape, completed reforms, and the primary challenges facing the state.
According to the Parliament of Georgia, Kakhiani spoke at length about the situation in Georgia’s occupied territories, detailing the illegal occupation enforced by the Russian Federation, ongoing human rights violations, and the so-called ‘borderisation’ process. He further emphasised the vital role of international support and adherence to the fundamental principles of international law in achieving a peaceful restoration of Georgia’s territorial integrity.
Furthermore, Giorgi Kakhiani stressed the absolute necessity of respecting a sovereign nation’s right to determine its own domestic and foreign policy trajectories independently. He also highlighted Georgia’s economic progress and its expanding role in regional transit and energy projects, specifically noting the development of the Middle Corridor. He remarked that a strategy anchored in peace, stability, and cooperation has successfully reinforced Georgia’s international standing and boosted its appeal as an investment destination.
During his address, the head of the delegation also underscored Georgia’s contributions to promoting peace and stability in the South Caucasus, including its active support for dialogue and cooperation between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Finally, Giorgi Kakhiani drew attention to Georgia’s ongoing humanitarian aid and solidarity provided to Ukraine, concluding that global challenges can only be resolved through robust dialogue, international cooperation, and unwavering respect for the rule of law.
