Foreign Minister: Georgia’s chairmanship of CoE Committee of Ministers successful
Despite the global pandemic, Georgia’s chairmanship of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers turned out successful, David Zalkaliani, Foreign Minister of Georgia said during the annual summary press briefing.
Foreign Minister said that new operating methods were introduced to facilitate work under pandemic conditions and a declaration on COVID-19 was adopted.
A joint Georgia-Greece-Germany declaration on human rights and protection of the environment was approved. The 2030 CoE Youth Strategy was endorsed.
“During six months of Georgian Chairmanship, eight statements were made on different international dates and events,” Foreign Minister said. Georgia became the 41st member of Pompidou Group, the Council of Europe’s intergovernmental cooperation platform on drug policy.
The Committee of Ministers is the Council of Europe’s statutory decision-making body. Georgia took over the Chairmanship of the CoE Committee of Ministers from France on November 27, 2019.
