For Georgia’s MP Giga Parulava: Garibashvili is seizing the moment to please his master while Georgian Dream tries to ban our party
“Irakli Garibashvili is issuing letters purely out of self-preservation, attempting to save his own skin,” MP Giga Parulava, a member of the Gakharia For Georgia party, has charged.
According to Parulava, the imprisoned former premier is attacking Giorgi Gakharia and his party in a desperate bid to curry favour with his ‘political master’.
“Garibashvili thought he saw an opportunity and seized it with his typical shortsightedness. At a time when Georgian Dream is actively seeking to ban our party, he hopes to appease his master with yet another letter—specifically by launching broadsides against Gakharia and our team.
How do you even address a figure like him? If Georgia is in crisis today, the roots lie squarely in Garibashvili’s time in office. Ever since he began releasing these letters, it has been an endless exercise in self-pity. He hasn’t acknowledged the public’s hardship. These open letters are pure self-interest—utterly detached from the issues actually confronting our people. The man is simply trying to save himself,” Parulava said.
The MP’s remarks come after former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili published another letter, writing: “I want to remind the public of the facts regarding the circumstances under which I returned to the post of Prime Minister in February 2021: the country was in a severe political crisis, paralysed by the COVID-19 pandemic, with a locked-down economy… Gakharia abandoned both country and party in the middle of this crisis through a sudden act of betrayal when he resigned. The government was on the brink of collapse, and the ruling party was left utterly demoralised.”
