For Georgia's Khvedeliani: Both opposition and government use Brussels meeting for populist purposes

The opposition and the government are using today’s meeting as a populist move because the meeting is technical in nature and concerns the decision made regarding diplomatic passports, said Tata Khvedeliani, a member of the Gakharia for Georgia party, commenting on today’s meeting in Brussels.

According to Khvedeliani, the Gakharia for Georgia team is working hard to ensure that any visa liberalization restrictions do not affect Georgian citizens.

“The government’s foreign policy is being conducted incompetently, and we are witnessing the deterioration of an important partnership for our country. Given this background, Georgia’s European future and its greatest achievement—visa-free travel—are, of course, under threat. Our team is working hard to ensure that any restrictions related to visa liberalisation do not apply to citizens. The Georgian people should not be punished for having an anti-Georgian and anti-national government. Under no circumstances should our population be affected by these restrictions,” said Tata Khvedeliani.
