For Georgia Sharashidze: Critical EP resolutions stem from democratic backsliding and anti-democratic laws adopted by GD

“The fact is that Armenia is developing faster and taking more effective steps on its path toward rapprochement with the European Union than Georgia. Despite the fact that Georgia is an EU candidate country, it is now further away from EU membership than it was when it received candidate status,” Giorgi Sharashidze, a member of the Gakharia for Georgia party, told the GPB First Channel.

According to him, this is due to democratic setbacks that have been noted by Georgia’s international partners.

“The sad reality is that Georgia is moving away from the path toward EU membership, and the responsibility for this lies solely with the government. Irakli Kobakhidze often says that European Parliament resolutions are worthless, and when such an attitude exists, we should not be surprised by critical resolutions adopted by the European Parliament. These resolutions are based on concerns about democratic backsliding and the anti-democratic laws that the Georgian Dream party has recently adopted,” Sharashidze said.
