FM: Georgia-Azerbaijan relations now have both regional and global significance

“Georgia-Azerbaijan relations have long transcended the framework of bilateral cooperation and now carry tremendous regional and global significance. From this perspective, the ongoing political dialogue between our two countries is more timely than ever,” declared Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili at a joint briefing with her Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov.

According to Botchorishvili, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister’s visit represents the best continuation of the intensive political dialogue between the two nations.

“I welcome Minister Jeyhun Bayramov. It is a great honour for me to host you in Georgia today, and I sincerely thank you for accepting our invitation and visiting Georgia. This year, relations between Georgia and Azerbaijan are well reflected in our political dialogue. Multiple high-level visits have taken place, and numerous meetings have been held between the Georgian and Azerbaijani sides. Today’s visit is the perfect continuation of the intensive political dialogue that is being implemented so successfully between our two countries.

Our countries’ history and relations are filled with the finest examples of neighbourliness, friendship, and partnership. It is precisely on this foundation that we speak today about deepening our ties and opportunities to strengthen them. Our relations have long surpassed the framework of bilateral cooperation; they carry tremendous regional and global significance. From this perspective, the political dialogue that exists between our two countries is even more interesting, necessary, and timely,” Botchorishvili declared.

As Maka Botchorishvili noted, it is significant that Georgia and Azerbaijan firmly support each other’s territorial integrity.

“Today we had an excellent opportunity to discuss many issues related to bilateral relations in various directions and sectors, strengthening our political dialogue. We also examined regional and global processes and their impact on our countries and our relations. Of course, in the context of bilateral relations, it is crucial that Georgia and Azerbaijan firmly support each other’s territorial integrity; these are relations based on mutual respect.

We discussed security challenges. For Georgia, the primary security challenge remains the occupation of two of its regions, a threat that extends beyond local concerns and significantly impacts the security of the entire region.

We examined important issues of bilateral relations and cooperation in the economic sphere. During the Prime Minister’s visit to Azerbaijan, it was clearly noted that the potential in this direction is greater than what we are currently employing. Despite the quite impressive figures, we are determined to continue active work so that economic ties between our two countries grow even more. This potential truly exists.

We also discussed cooperation in a broader, regional context. We mentioned numerous visits that took place in Central Asian countries. Precisely in this context, the significance of cooperation, friendship, and partnership between Georgia and Azerbaijan is even greater and better used, so that the Middle Corridor, which is so often discussed, can be better developed,” Botchorishvili declared.
