FM Botchorishvili: Two Georgian regions remain occupied; criticism from those with diplomatic and economic ties to Russia is unacceptable

Georgia’s Foreign Minister, Maka Botchorishvili, discussed the Russia-Georgia conflict on Rustavi 2 TV, emphasising that Georgia is the only country without diplomatic relations with Russia and that negotiations occur solely within the international format, namely, the Geneva International Discussions, which include the United States, UN, OSCE, and EU alongside Georgia.

“The conflict remains unresolved. Our territorial integrity has been breached. Two regions are still under occupation, and those who were displaced from these regions are still deprived of the opportunity to return to their homes. This is the reality Georgia faces, and it is the reality we must live with,” said Maka Botchorishvili.

The Foreign Minister also criticised the notion of other states, which maintain diplomatic and economic relations with Russia, voicing their criticism of Georgia.

“Such criticism raises further questions: what interests are being pursued through Georgia-Russia relations elsewhere? What do they want from Georgia? What would constitute a satisfactory state of affairs in Georgia-Russia relations, a frozen conflict or ongoing hostility? Naturally, these are questions that concern us. We must act responsibly so that we are not left wondering about the true motives behind these interests in our country,” she added.
