First special flight for Georgian citizens in Middle East operated from Oman’s capital
Amid the ongoing situation in the Middle East, the first special flight has been operated today to facilitate the return of Georgian citizens whose travel cannot be assured on time by the relevant airlines. The flight departed from Muscat, the capital of the Sultanate of Oman, bound for Tbilisi.
Additionally, a special flight will also be operated from Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, to Tbilisi later today.
The Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued information regarding the operation of these special flights. As stated, due to the disruptions caused by the closure of airspace in several countries, the Government of Georgia has authorised the organisation of special flights for Georgian citizens unable to return home through regular airline services.
According to the Ministry, Georgian citizens wishing to travel to Georgia are encouraged to contact their respective Georgian embassies for assistance. The closure of airspace across multiple countries, a consequence of the current events in the Middle East, has significantly disrupted travel plans. In response, the Georgian government has scheduled special flights to Tbilisi for March 3, 4, and 5, for citizens facing delays in returning home.
“The Georgian authorities continue to take all necessary measures to ensure the safe and timely return of our citizens. Georgian embassies in the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia are actively engaged in assisting those seeking to return to Georgia.
We wish our compatriots a smooth flight and a safe journey home,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.
