Federalists leader: Banning us changes nothing; we will force regime to concede through protests, sanctions and alternatives
“The regime has decided to ban the Federalists as well. This changes nothing for us. So long as a single party is being banned, regardless of our relationship with that party, we believe the political process is dying, and we shall take no part in any formal political process nor serve as window-dressing for the regime,” declared Tamar Chergoleishvili, Chair of the Federalists party, during a Facebook Live session.
Chergoleishvili responded to Georgian Dream’s decision to add the Federalists party to the constitutional lawsuit seeking the prohibition of several political parties.
“Naturally, we regard every party other than ourselves as a competitor, but we wish to defeat our competitors on a level playing field, in a fair contest, and not as a result of Bidzina Ivanishvili’s bans. Accordingly, this changes absolutely nothing for us. That said, I understand why the regime has needed all of this. With the nine-month deadline approaching, there is insufficient basis to proceed straightforwardly with banning those three parties. So it needs a new deadline. They have therefore withdrawn the original nine-month lawsuit and filed a new one, so that a fresh deadline begins to run. This is a display of the regime’s weakness, nothing more. I’m writing to our supporters: this change won’t affect us. We shall compel the regime to make concessions through protest, sanctions, and by offering an alternative. Naturally, the regime will change as a result, democratic governance will come to power, and the Federalists will unquestionably be a part of it. We shall establish justice in this country, bring security to our citizens, and restore civil liberties; that is to say, we shall repeal every Russian-style law. Beyond that, we shall reform the electoral legislation so that people reclaim their will and their right to choose, and thereafter a fair judiciary will ensure that their choice is always protected and that bandits in the mould of Ivanishvili can never steal it again. So, this changes nothing for us. The regime has revealed its own weakness, and nothing else,” declared Tamar Chergoleishvili.
The Federalist Party is to be added to the constitutional lawsuit seeking the prohibition of several parties. Speaker of Parliament Shalva Papuashvili announced that Georgian Dream will submit the relevant lawsuit to the Constitutional Court today.
For the record, Speaker of Parliament Shalva Papuashvili submitted a constitutional lawsuit on October 28, 2025, challenging the constitutionality and seeking the prohibition of the United National Movement, the Coalition for Change, and Strong Georgia – Lelo. The Constitutional Court published the lawsuit regarding the ban on the three political groups on November 4.
