Georgian Dream adds Federalists party to party ban constitutional lawsuit
The Federalist Party is to be added to the constitutional lawsuit seeking the ban of several political parties, Speaker of Parliament Shalva Papuashvili has announced. He stated that Georgian Dream would be submitting the relevant petition to the Constitutional Court today.
“At the same time, we are withdrawing the previous constitutional lawsuit we had filed seeking the banning of unconstitutional parties, and are submitting a new, revised lawsuit in which we shall expand the list of parties. Specifically, whereas the original constitutional lawsuit named three parties, the United National Movement, the Coalition for Change, and Lelo, the new petition will include, alongside those three, the Federalists party.
On March 2, several parties signed a declaration reaffirming their commitment to what they described as shared strategic objectives. They joined forces with those who organised the attempted overthrow of the government on October 4, thereby adopting those same strategic goals. They called for the delegitimisation of elections, the non-recognition of the authority of constitutional bodies, and so forth. It is on these grounds that we are adding the Federalists to the three parties already named in our constitutional lawsuit. There are, of course, other parties within this alliance; however, as we stated previously, we are examining the objectives of each party, the extent to which those objectives are unconstitutional, and, on the other hand, the degree to which their influence on political life is material.
The present leaders of this alliance are Mikheil Saakashvili, Giga Bokeria, and Nika Gvaramia, three senior figures from the criminal regime of the United National Movement, who are once again attempting, now in the guise of the United National Movement alliance, to reduce this country to a puppet state. We have deliberated on the constitutional lawsuit, and accordingly, the Federalists will be added as the fourth party, given that, under the declaration of March 2, the real leaders of the United National Movement alliance remain Saakashvili, Bokeria, and Gvaramia,” declared Shalva Papuashvili.
For the record, Speaker of Parliament Shalva Papuashvili submitted a constitutional lawsuit on October 28, 2025, challenging the constitutionality and seeking the prohibition of the United National Movement, the Coalition for Change, and Strong Georgia – Lelo. The Constitutional Court published the lawsuit regarding the ban on the three political groups on November 4.
