February 13 – World Radio Day

February 13 marks World Radio Day. This year’s theme centres on Artificial Intelligence, accompanied by the slogan: “Artificial Intelligence is a tool, not a voice.”

Today, artificial intelligence opens up new opportunities, not only for innovation but also for enriching the creative process and strengthening our connection with audiences. When employed ethically and responsibly, supporting professional judgment, creativity, and the core values of public broadcasting, AI can become a valuable tool for fostering greater public trust.

Advances in technology enable the automation of routine and administrative tasks, allowing broadcasters to focus on more meaningful and vital work, such as creative development, fact-checking, sourcing, and presenting rich archival material.

UNESCO established World Radio Day in 2011, recognising the significance of radio in our cultural and social fabric. Historically, this date also marks the founding of the UN Radio in 1946.

In 2025, Georgian Radio will celebrate its centenary. Exactly one hundred years ago, in 1925, the first radio broadcasts commenced in Georgia. Despite rapid technological advancements and the rise of social networks, radio continues to maintain its audience, its niche, and its relevance.

In recognition of this enduring legacy, Georgian Radio’s longstanding broadcasting tradition was designated as an intangible cultural heritage monument in 2025.

Today, two channels of Georgian Radio are accessible nationwide, on FM 102.3 and FM 100.9, with Georgian Radio Music broadcasting on FM 100.9.
