EU Integration Committee Chair: U.S. visits should aim to restore Georgia-U.S. strategic partnership

Levan Makhashvili, Chair of the Parliamentary European Integration Committee, believes that the main aim of visits to the U.S. is not merely holding talks, but making concrete political decisions to restore the strategic partnership with Georgia.

In an interview with the GPB’s First Channel, when remarking on the recent visit of the parliamentary delegation to the U.S., Makhashvili said that often the lack of information is the problem.

“Similar visits and communication serve the aim to learn each other’s interests and approximate them. This visit aimed to exchange mutual interests and viewpoints, which should be the basis for the restoration of bilateral relations. This visit was prolific. I hope such communication will continue. The main aim is not to talk for talks but to make concrete political decisions to restore strategic partnership with the U.S. This should be the key measurement of such visits and meetings,” he said.

The parliamentary delegation members held a meeting with five Congressmen who represent the Foreign Relations Committee to review Georgia-U.S. relations, security issues, ongoing developments in the region and the Middle Corridor development. The delegation members met Congressmen Randy Fine, Mike Turner, Ryan Zinke and Anna Paulina Luna within the framework of their visit to the U.S.
