EU Ambassador to Georgia – Finding compromise through dialogue is the best way forward
Finding compromise through dialogue is the best way forward at this stage – Carl Hartzell, Ambassador of the European Union to Georgia said after the fourth round of negotiations held between representatives of the ruling team and the opposition.
According to the EU Ambassador, the fact that all sides were in agreement to continue the dialogue process was welcoming. He said that the meeting was productive and viewpoints were exchanged among the sides based on the proposal presented by the ruling party.
Hartzell said that the best result would be an agreement in a dialogue format since the dialogue was the platform of opportunities and the best way forward.
“This will be the best result to put Georgia on the right trajectory in preparation for the parliamentary elections to be held next year,” EU Ambassador claimed.
The ruling Georgian Dream party suggested maintaining the mixed election system for the 2020 parliamentary polls but increase of the proportional share by 2/3 and reduction of Majoritarian mandates in the parliament to 50 seats.
The fourth round of negotiations was held between representatives of the ruling team and the opposition over election system in Georgia at Sheraton Hotel in Tbilisi. Representatives of the Diplomatic Corps attended the meeting.
