Election Day is for citizens to come out and cast votes, hold leaders accountable, US Ambassador says

US Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan said October 30 was an important day for the Georgian people. She said she feels honoured to participate as an observer in “these important elections” in Rustavi.

“It’s a really important day for the people of Georgia. This is when the citizens come out and cast their votes, hold their leaders accountable, make sure their leaders understand what their priorities are, whether it’s jobs, roads, water or healthcare.

This is the day when the citizens are heard, and I’m very pleased to see, in the precincts I visited so far, a very calm environment, well-organized voting spaces also prepared for COVID. There are very good preparations to keep people safe when they’re coming out to vote. I do hope that people will come out to vote. Wear your mask, but come out and let your voices be heard! Hold your leaders accountable! This is the essence of democracy. The people of Georgia are the cornerstone of democracy, and we really congratulate Georgian citizens for taking their voting so seriously,” US Ambassador said.

Runoff municipal elections are going on in Georgia.
