Eka Sepashvili addresses UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights session
Eka Sepashvili, Secretary of the Parliamentary Temporary Commission on Women and Children’s Issues, participates in the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR) session in Geneva.
In her speech, she highlighted the human rights violations in Georgia’s occupied territories.
“European Court of Human Rights rulings have confirmed that the rights of our citizens in these areas are severely infringed. These include violations of the right to private property, access to education in their native language, and freedom of movement. Tragically, there have been cases where individuals were denied the chance to cross the occupation line to access healthcare services provided by the Georgian government,” Sepashvili stated.
She emphasised that the Georgian government allocates funds to provide free healthcare, education, and other essential services to residents in the occupied territories.
Addressing the session, Sepashvili noted the absence of an international monitoring mechanism to oversee human rights in the occupied regions.
“As is well known, the work of international monitoring missions is hindered by the Russian occupation forces,” she said.
