Educational process suspended in several regions due to heavy snowfall
The educational process has been suspended in schools in Adjara, Guria, Racha-Lechkhumi, and Lower Svaneti due to heavy snowfall, the Georgian Education Ministry said on Wednesday.
Learning is partially ongoing in the schools of Samegrelo-Upper Svaneti, Imereti, Samtskhe-Javakheti, and Shida Kartli.
According to the statement, schools will ensure parents are informed about the compensation for missed class hours.
“Since the weather deterioration, the Ministry has established an internal coordination group. With the involvement of educational resource centres, representatives of the school community have united and, within their capabilities, are providing various types of assistance to the population.
In cooperation with the Ministry of Defense, appropriate spaces in public schools have been allocated for military personnel to support the Georgian Defense Forces in eliminating problems caused by heavy snowfall and assisting affected populations.
After weather improvement and the completion of road clearing processes, the Ministry of Education will conduct appropriate monitoring to study the infrastructural needs of schools to ensure a safe educational environment for pupils,” the statement notes.
