Education Minister says Ministry tried to promptly inform schools of false alarm, no need to suspend classes

We tried to promptly inform the school community that there was no reason for panic or the need to suspend classes, said the Georgian Minister of Education, Giorgi Amilakhvari.

Amilakhvari responded to a question about information spread on “Telegram” regarding operative-investigative actions in educational institutions throughout Tbilisi.

“Yesterday evening, information was spread in one of the newly created Telegram channels. Throughout the night, both the Ministry and the relevant law enforcement agencies carried out continuous checks in schools. I would express my gratitude to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Security Service for their ongoing efforts. Early this morning, we received confirmation that the information was false. Naturally, we promptly informed the school community that there was no need for panic or to suspend classes,” said Giorgi Amilakhvari.

Several educational institutions across Tbilisi were searched and investigated overnight due to threatening messages spread via Telegram channels. The State Security Service later issued a statement confirming no explosives or devices were found.
