Levan Davitashvili, First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, met with Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister of Qatar, to discuss prospects for enhancing trade and economic ties between Georgia and Qatar.
The meeting took place during Davitashvili’s official visit to Qatar.
“We had a very productive meeting with the Prime Minister of Qatar, covering cooperation in investment, tourism, and trade. The Qatari government maintains a very positive attitude toward Georgia. I expect high-level bilateral visits to take place this year, further strengthening our economic partnership,” said Davitashvili.
The Georgian delegation, led by the First Vice Prime Minister, is attending the Fifth Qatar Economic Forum, held under the patronage of Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and supported by Bloomberg. The forum brings together over 2,500 global leaders, including representatives from Gulf countries.
During the forum, Davitashvili and Deputy Foreign Minister Aleksandre Khvtisiashvili held meetings with officials from various Gulf nations, focusing on expanding economic cooperation across multiple sectors.
Since 2022, Georgia and Qatar have had a bilateral agreement on mutual promotion and protection of investments, along with a broader economic, trade, and technical cooperation framework.
“Economic and investment cooperation with Persian Gulf countries is a key priority. Qatar is emerging as a significant partner—Qatari investments in Georgia reached approximately $50 million in 2024, and we expect that figure to grow,” Davitashvili noted.
As part of the visit, Davitashvili also met with Faisal Bin Fadhil Alibrahim, Minister of Economy and Planning of Saudi Arabia. The two sides discussed further collaboration and establishing a formal platform that includes participation from the Georgian and Saudi business communities.
“This platform, overseen by both countries’ Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Economy, has strong potential to enhance trade and investment cooperation,” Davitashvili said.
Tomorrow, the Georgian delegation will meet with Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al Thani, Qatar’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, to discuss key issues in trade, investment, energy, tourism, transport, and communications.
