Varlam Avaliani appointed Georgia’s Ambassador to Qatar

Varlam Avaliani has been appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the State of Qatar, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.

From 2021 to 2025, Avaliani served as the General Director of the media holding that includes the television company Rustavi 2 and several other media platforms. Prior to that, between 2019 and 2021, he was the Executive Director of Studio Maestro.

Earlier in his career, Avaliani held senior positions in the public sector — serving as Advisor and Deputy Minister of Defense of Georgia from 2012 to 2014. He also worked as a communications consultant in private consulting companies between 2014 and 2018.

Avaliani began his professional career in journalism, working for various Georgian TV companies from 1999 to 2013.
