Droa leader continues hunger strike, pledges not to interfere with parliament operation

Droa party leader Elene Khoshtaria vowed to continue the hunger strike until ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili was transferred to a civic clinic to ensure his health condition.

Elene Khoshtaria accentuated that her strike is peaceful, and she does not plan to interfere with the operation of the parliament or any other activities.

According to Khostaria, she stays in contact with the opposition parties, and some other individuals plan to join her strike. Droa leader also confirmed communication with the US Embassy in Georgia.

“I’m not taking a step from the parliament. I neither wish nor expect anyone to join me in this decision. This is not a beneficial form of protest for anyone, including myself. However, it is up to people to decide,” Elene Khoshtaria claimed.

Droa party leader Elene Khoshtaria kicked off a hunger strike on November 3 until ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili was transferred to a civic clinic. She deems Saakashvili’s detention and developments linked to his health state as “sadistic and cynical revenge against a citizen of Georgia and the third president.”

Law enforcers arrested Mikheil Saakashvili in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi on October 1. He has been on a hunger strike since the very first day of his arrest.
