Georgia’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Lasha Darsalia, as part of a working visit to Washington, participated in the 6th International Religious Freedom Summit 2026 and attended the National Prayer Breakfast. According to information released by the Georgian Embassy in the USA, the events were also attended by Tamar Taliashvili, Georgia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United States.

“The Summit is an initiative of President Donald Trump and aims to address challenges facing freedom of religion and belief worldwide, and to mobilise international efforts to strengthen these freedoms.

During the Summit, the Deputy Minister held a working meeting with Vicki Hartzler, Chair of the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF). During the meeting, Lasha Darsalia briefed Vicki Hartzler on the situation in Georgia’s occupied regions, including restrictions on religious freedom and the conduct of church services in the Georgian language for the local population.

The visit also included a meeting with Sam Brownback, Co-Chair of the International Religious Freedom Summit.

The National Prayer Breakfast, established in 1953, unites people of various faiths and denominations under the leadership of the United States Congress. Continuing this tradition, the event was attended by President Donald Trump, who spoke to the assembled guests. The U.S. President highlighted, among other priorities of his administration, the significance of faith and religious freedom for the White House, emphasising the importance of safeguarding these values.

Participants in the events included religious leaders, high-ranking representatives of the executive and legislative branches of the American federal government, as well as representatives of high-level delegations from various countries and members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Washington,” the Embassy’s statement noted.
