Deputy Economy Minister: Over 150,000 jobs created, poverty halved over past four years
Vakhtang Tsintsadze, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, reflected on the economic progress the country has achieved over the past four years.
He highlighted that during this period, Georgia’s economy grew at an average rate of 9.7 per cent, positioning the nation among the global leaders in economic expansion.
The Deputy Minister emphasised that the GDP per capita effectively doubled, reaching nearly GEL 25,000, over these four years.
“It is particularly noteworthy that this economic growth has been broadly diversified. Key sectors, including transport and warehousing, information and communications, trade, and construction, have all played a crucial role in driving this positive trend. As a result, more than 150,000 jobs have been created, and poverty has been reduced to a historic low,” Tsintsadze stated.
He further noted that the poverty rate has nearly halved over the period, now standing at 9.4 per cent. According to him, 445,000 people have been lifted out of poverty over the past four years.
“We anticipate that these encouraging economic trends will persist into 2025 and beyond. The International Monetary Fund’s assessment affirms this optimism, projecting that Georgia will enjoy one of the highest rates of economic growth from 2025 to 2029,” the Deputy Minister concluded.
