Deputy Economy Minister introduces acting U.S. Ambassador to Georgia to key transport projects
Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Tamar Ioseliani, alongside Lasha Abashidze, General Director of JSC Georgian Railways, met with Acting U.S. Ambassador to Georgia, Alan Purcell, and representatives of the American railway engineering firm Wabtec.
According to the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, the Deputy Minister detailed Georgia’s ongoing developments in transport and logistics, highlighting major projects that will significantly enhance Georgia’s role as a transit hub along the Middle Corridor.
She emphasised the Georgian Railways’ modernisation, noting plans to invest one billion GEL this year to renew rolling stock and locomotives. Ioseliani underscored that advancing the country’s transit capacity remains a top priority for the Georgian government, with the efficient and safe operation of Georgian Railways playing a vital role.
Representatives from Wabtec expressed keen interest in the locomotive fleet renewal initiative. The parties agreed that Georgian Railways would provide detailed information on upcoming procurement plans.
The discussion also covered major infrastructure projects, including the Anaklia Deep Sea Port, the East-West highway, and New Tbilisi Airport, among others, the Ministry stated.
