Defense Minister visits Georgian Battalion at Bagram airbase in Afghanistan (Photo)
Georgian Defense Minister Irakli Gharibashvili visited the Georgian battalion at Bagram airbase within the framework of his visit to Afghanistan.
General Brian Walford hosted Georgian Defense Minister at the airport and talked about the role of Georgian soldiers in the international peacekeeping mission.
Gharibashvili then held a meeting with Georgian soldiers and introduced them with social and infrastructure plans. He also thanked the soldiers for recognition of Georgia’s name on an international arena.
“Georgia is appreciated on an international arena and this is your merit, the result of your bravery, courage and professionalism,” Gharibashvili said when addressing the soldiers.
Defense Minister told the battalion that he had announced the year of 2020 as the year to care about the military servicemen.
Gharibashvili also laid a wreath at the memorial of Georgian soldiers who died when performing their duties in the Afghanistan international peacekeeping mission.
