Defence Minister: Army is pillar of Georgia’s independence and freedom
“The Georgian army is the cornerstone of our nation’s independence and freedom—our greatest symbol of dignity and devotion to the homeland. Serving Georgia is the highest honour,” said Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Irakli Chikovani during the Independence Day celebration on Liberty Square.
In his address, Chikovani extended special congratulations to the recruits who took their military oath on May 26.
“Centuries have taught us that wisdom and strength, unity and mutual respect are the greatest weapons of the Georgian nation,” he emphasized.
The Minister highlighted that the people of Georgia will never forget the sacrifices made for independence, nor the heroes who gave their lives for the country’s freedom.
On this national holiday, he also paid tribute to the wounded and injured soldiers, as well as the veterans who laid the foundation of Georgia’s defence forces.
Addressing the Georgian army, Chikovani bowed to the memory of the fallen.
“It is the legacy of our heroes that obliges us to ensure Georgia’s centuries-old struggle concludes with the creation of a free, sovereign, strong, and united state,” he stated.
