Decision from Strasbourg Court into Georgia vs. Russia case expected this year
Georgia expects announcement of the decision from Strasbourg Court into Georgia vs. Russia case regarding the August 2008 Georgia-Russia war this year – Tea Tsulukiani, Justice Minister of Georgia said.
Georgia filed a lawsuit against Russia in the European Court of Human Rights on August 11 of 2008. The Strasbourg Court put the lawsuit into production on December 13 of 2011.
On April 3, 2012, the case was sent to the Grand Chamber for consideration. Georgia accuses Russia of committing serious aggression during and after the 2008 war, and violating human rights and fundamental freedoms guaranteed by the European Convention on Human Rights and its Protocols, specifically the articles pertaining to the right to life, prohibition of torture, inhuman and degrading treatment, freedom and security, and freedom of movement.
