Culture Committee Chair meets CoE Sec/Gen

The Chair of the Culture Committee, Eliso Bolkvadze, met with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Marija Pejčinović Burić, in Strasbourg, the Parliament reported.

During the meeting, they discussed the role of cultural diplomacy in Georgia’s integration into the European Union.

“Today, we engaged in a highly stimulating discussion with Mrs. Marija Burić. Our conversation revolved around Georgia’s European integration processes and the significant role of Georgian culture in this paramount journey. We underscored the importance of their support in this regard. Additionally, we delved into the notion of culture as a distinctive avenue for fostering peace, exploring the development and planning of various programs in alignment with this objective”, – Eliso Bolkvadze stated.

The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of Georgia to the Council of Europe, Tamar Taliashvili, who at the same time has been elected as the Chair of the Rapporteur Group on Education, Culture, Sport, Youth and Environment.

“At the meeting with the Secretary General of the European Council, several important messages were voiced, among them, we talked about the support of Georgia’s sovereignty and the success achieved by Georgia on the European integration path”, – Tamar Taliashvili stated.

During the visit, the Chair of the Culture Committee will meet with Marja Ruotanen, Director General of Democracy and Human Dignity at the Council of Europe, and Matjaž Gruden, Director for Democracy.

The discussion will revolve around the significance of providing quality art education in fostering the development of democracy.

Later in the day, a meeting with the children of the Strasbourg Sunday School is scheduled, as part of the joint thematic inquiry conducted by the Culture Committee, Education, Science, and Youth Affairs Committee, and the Diaspora and Caucasus Issues Committee.
