Construction works launched at two sections of Rikoti Pass

Construction works have been launched at two sections of Rikoti Pass starting today. According to the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure, the project is one of the most difficult and largest ones with respect to engineering in Europe.

Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze, Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Maia Tskitishvili and Head of Roads Department of Georgia Irakli Karseladze inspected the works.

Locals are mainly employed on construction works ongoing at Khevi-Ubisa and Ubisa-Shorapani sections. The works will soon begin across Shorapani-Argveti section.

The Asian Development Bank and the European Investment Bank are financing projects underway at two sections.

The 51.6-kilometer-long road will be constructed. The project also consists of 96 bridges and 53 tunnels. The road construction works of Rikoti Pass are planned to have been completed by 2022.
