Last 4-kilometre-long road opens at Rikoti Pass

The 4-line last remaining 4-kilometre-long road of the East-West direction across the Rikoti Pass has been opened today.

According to the Infrastructure Ministry, the movement will be allowed on 2 lines, 1 line for each direction, while road reconstruction works will be completed. The two-way movement will resume and 5 new bridges will open following the shifting traffic mode.

Following the final stage of road construction works, the 52-kilometer highway of the Rikori Pass will be fully opened. The project includes 51 tunnels and 97 bridges.

The new road is built in line with international road safety standards and is equipped with a road lighting system. Traffic already uses 96% of the new main road.

The construction of the new highway at the Rikoti Pass is implemented with co-financing from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) the European Investment Bank (EIB), the World Bank (WB) and state budget. The value of the project is 2.6 billion GEL.
