Construction of new bridge at Georgia-Armenia border launched

Construction of a new Friendship Bridge across the Debeda River has been launched at the Sadakhlo-Bagratasheni checkpoint near Georgia-Armenia border.

Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, Irakli Karseladze, Armenian Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures, Suren Papikyan, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Regional Director for the Caucasus, Catarina Bjorlin Hansen and officials of the two countries visited the construction site.

The EBRD finances the construction of the bridge with the support of Armenian and Georgian governments. The Roads Department of Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure will carry out the works.

Friendship Bridge is expected to open in May of 2022.
