Constitutional Court Chair: President's impeachment verdict to be signed today

Merab Turava, the chairman of the Constitutional Court, informed journalists that the judges of the Constitutional Court are expected to sign the ruling on the impeachment submission of President Salome Zourabichvili after 12 p.m. Turava emphasized the secrecy of the deliberations and the importance of not disclosing information until the judges sign the decision.

“October 16 is the day for announcing and publishing the verdict. The judges will convene after 12:00 to sign the decision, and it takes about two hours to prepare the text for publication. The legal department will conduct an expertise check to ensure no technical errors in the text. The decision is expected to be published during the day. The judges might change their positions before signing. No one has signed it yet,” he said.

Turava emphasized that there was no external pressure and noted that he knows the judges’ positions. He mentioned that the deliberative process is confidential, and details cannot be disclosed.
When asked whether the decision would be unanimous, Turava stated that this information is also part of the deliberative process and cannot be commented on until the decision is signed.

“The judges have exchanged opinions and formulated their positions, and the ruling is prepared for signing within the constitutional timeframe. Violating the secrecy of the meeting is considered a crime,” he added.
