Competition Agency launches youth educational roadshow in Rustavi
The Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency (GCCA) held an educational session for local youth at the Rustavi Youth Centre’s Digital Development Space.
Led by GCCA Chairman Irakli Lekvinadze, the event drew around 50 school pupils and university students aged 18 to 29.
During the workshop, Lekvinadze briefed participants on the importance of fair market competition and its direct impact on consumer welfare; he also explained how a competitive environment drives better pricing and higher quality standards. He also outlined regulatory enforcement mechanisms used to detect and combat anti-competitive practices.
According to the GCCA, the meeting addressed consumer rights, including the statutory 14-day unconditional return period for online purchases and the mandatory two-year legal guarantee under Georgian law.
Attendees were introduced to the government-backed price comparison portal, www.ekalata.gov.ge, designed to help consumers compare retail prices across various supermarket chains and make informed purchasing decisions.
Lekvinadze also highlighted the agency’s online educational resources, including its digital competition glossary, and shared insights from previous agency-led outreach initiatives.
The Rustavi session marks the launch of a new nationwide educational campaign targeting young citizens. Implemented under a Memorandum of Understanding with the Youth Agency, the initiative will expand to other municipalities across Georgia in the coming months.
