City Council Chairman: Capital’s budget reaches record high, approaching 2.6 billion GEL
The 2026 budget of the Tbilisi City Council has increased by 84.8 million GEL, reaching a total of 2.59 billion GEL. The decision was approved during a City Council session, the Tbilisi City Council reported.
Chairman of the Tbilisi City Council, Zurab Abashidze, commented on the increase, noting that the capital’s budget has once again grown and is now approaching 2.6 billion GEL—an unprecedented and significant figure.
According to Abashidze, a substantial portion of the additional funds will be allocated to Tbilisi’s district administrations, which will support the implementation of more projects.
“The trend of increasing the budget is very important, especially since a large share of the additional funds will be directed to local administrative units. This means that issues affecting our population will be addressed more quickly. Every increase is important, as it is used in the interests of the public.
In addition, part of the increased budget will be allocated to improving school infrastructure, which is also a priority,” Abashidze said.
