Chair of Interim Commission: Opinion with recommendations, structural changes to make FMCG sector competitive
“The parliamentary interim commission studied the activities of more than 80 companies of the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sector in Georgia, among them are producers, importers, distributors and retailers. We got familiarized with their business processes, operating costs, financial situation and capital structure. We also studied the experiences of seven European countries on various methods of combating food inflation,” said Shota Berekashvili, Chair of the Parliamentary Interim Commission studying the pricing structure of food, medicines and fuel, at the plenary.
According to Berekashvili, the Commission will shortly issue its opinion with recommendations, steps and structural changes which will make the FMCG sector competitive and effective.
“We will get a systemic result immediately, shortly after the changes are implemented. We also have a plan for the medium term on how to transform this sector so that it works efficiently and does not create additional costs.
I believe it will be effective to monitor this sector. It should have financial discipline. It is crucial that these processes are healthy and that a framework for commercial relations exists that will make the sector competitive and successful,” he said.
